Open Arts Studio Homeschool Program



Open Arts Studio offers Homeschool Classes in a couple art mediums. Drawing & Painting classes meet once a week for 1.5 hours over a 6 week period.  Pottery classes meet once a week for 2 hours over a 6 week period. Both of these mediums are in a class setting and classes need at least 4 students in order for them to run. View the class times below to see if they work for you. We can be flexible if you are interested in a different time or day that can potentially work for the instructor. We can create a time slot that will work for you and your homeschool friends.

Open Arts Studio is excited to be offering Cooking Classes which meets once a week for 2 hours over a 6 week period. Cooking classes need at least 6 registered students in order for the class to run. Please see the schedule and details below for cooking class.

Open Arts Studio is also currently offering one on one Guitar, Ukulele & Piano Lessons. This is set up as half hour lessons once a week for 6 consecutive weeks between 4pm and 6pm for 4 days a week Monday thru Thursday. You may purchase these lessons over phone (253) 272-9033 and email at openartsstudio@openartsstudio.com to book your half hour timeslot. 

Sewing or Beading Classes meet once a week for 2 hours over a 6 week period. Times and days can be set up for these classes if we have at least 6 interested students. Please call or email us if you have some interests in having a group of students for sewing or beading classes.

Homeschool Drawing & Painting

 The Open Arts Drawing Method is a simple technique for drawing that gives students the ability to easily recognize the curves, angles and shapes in everything they see.  Once students understand these concepts, they are able to recreate what they see into drawing on paper.  Our drawing method is taught to the appropriate age and ability level of each class.  Subject matter and mediums will vary in order to allow for progressive learning experiences.  Students progress from simple contour images to three-dimensional subjects. All supplies are included in the price. 
All classes run as a 6 week sessions.

Homeschool Pottery

Open Arts Studio's clay program teaches many techniques and offers students the opportunity to work with clay in a variety of methods.  The slab roller, extruder, molds, hand tools and pottery wheel are among the tools students will become familiar with as they build their creations.  All clay classes include experience with the potter's wheel and hand building methods such as pinch pots, coiling, slab building and more.  The clay medium is a beautiful, moldable and tactical medium that aids in a child's growth from intellectual to creative processes. Price includes everything from the supplies and clay to the glazes, just come prepared to get a little messy!

 Homeschool Guitar & Piano Lessons

These guitar lessons are appropriate for beginners, intermediate and advanced guitarists or pianists that want to improve their skills. Open Arts Studio utilizes a hands-on focus for learning the guitar or piano during these one on one lessons. Body percussion is used and there is influence from the Orff and Kodaly teaching methods as well.  Half hour lessons arte availble on Monday and Tuesday between 4pm and 6pm. Possible to open up times for Thursday if other two days fill up. Once purchased the studio will call you within 48 hours to schedule your timeslot.  Homeschool Cooking 

Open Arts Studio and The Art House Cafe are excited to offer culinary classes! Kids will learn the art of cooking and the science of baking. Classes are held in our fully equipped teaching and and prep kitchen on the lower level of the adjoining Art House Cafe. Students will follow a hands-on approach to learning in which they will execute various dishes and baked goods from start to finish. Classes are 2 hours long held once a week for 6 consecutive weeks and will cover new lessons/recipes each week. Kitchen and food safety, using kitchen utensils, proper way to measure, cut, pour, stir melt and peel will be covered  during this course. Students get to sit down and enjoy eating their creations at the end of each class and occasionally have extra to take home! Each student will take home a recipe book at the end of the session full of the recipes they learned during class time.

 Homeschool Sewing

​Open Arts Studio is licensed to teach  the Kids Can Sew curriculum! Students will learn sewing machine skills, termonology, pattern sizing and reading, layout, cutting and assembly. Some of the possible projects in class can be but are not limited to: pillowcases, tote bags, purses, pajamas bottoms, tank tops, shors, and more. Sewing machines and patterns will be provided. A fabric/materials list will be given on the first day of class. 

Session II HS Sewing Monday 9:30am-11:30am - 9 to 15 yrs

$240.00

Student's will learn terminology of materials & techniques; basic hand sewing; sewing machine operation; following written instructions for simple projects such as a "scrunchie", tote bag, pot holder, zippered bag, bookmark, cushion cover, or chef's apron, time permitting.


*Sewing machines, basic tools, and fabrics are available for use on our projects.


Meets 6 times during this 6 week session.

Dates/Times: Monday 9:30am to 11:30am

10/31, 11/7, 11/14, 11/28, 12/5, 12/12

*please note that class will not run on Monday 11/21, OAS will be closed for the Thanksgiving holiday

PLEASE READ THE FINE PRINT. By registering online to OAS sessions class you agree to the following policies and release statement:


Tuition & Refunds: Tuition must be paid when registration is turned in. Payment in full holds each seat. If you are paying by credit card, there is a $5 non-refundable fee added per class. You may cancel at any time up to two (2) weeks before the class begins. There is a $20 processing fee per class/camp for any cancellation. Students can receive a partial refund if they choose to withdraw immediately following the first class (same day). No refunds will be issued after that date.


Missed/Canceled Classes: If an instructor must cancel class due to emergency and a substitute is not available, the class will be canceled and a make-up class will be rescheduled. Please call the studio if you are going to be absent. Student absences will not be reimbursed and cannot be credited toward future classes. Make-ups will not be permitted for 'no shows' and class fees will not be refunded or credited. OAS cannot guarantee make ups. If you have an excused absence and we have space in another class you may be able to make up your absence.


Liability & Emergencies: I hereby release Open Arts Studio from liability of any injuries my child or I may suffer as the result of participation in the program. I acknowledge that my child will not be released from the studio by themselves or with anyone other than authorized persons. I give permission to see that my minor child receives medical treatment in an emergency. OAS may take your child off premise for the purpose of break time or part of the lesson. Students will be well supervised and the release of liability applies during this time.


Behavior: Respectful behavior is expected at all times. Students who prove to be a continual distraction to the class will be dismissed from class for the day. If the students unacceptable behavior continues, they may not be allowed to return to the studio at the discretion of the instructor/OAS staff. Any remaining tuition is non-refundable.


Dropping Off & Picking Up: Parents/Guardians - - Open Arts Studio is not responsible for supervising your child outside of class time. If you are not staying at the studio while your child attends class, please be sure to drop your child off no earlier than 5 minutes before the class begins and be waiting for your child when they are dismissed from class at the end of the scheduled time.


In the Classroom: No cell phones are permitted during youth classes. OAS is not responsible for damaged clothing or property. Please dress appropriately. Long hair should be tied back and closed toed shoes are required for cooking and ceramics classes. Please arrive at the studio a few minutes prior to class as late arrivals cause a distraction and will reduce 1:1 time instructors have with each student. OAS has permission to photograph students and their artwork for use in print and online promotion.

Homeschool Piano

With a variety of piano methods available in today’s music world, The Mayron Cole Piano Method offers students a unique opportunity to learn in age- and skill-specific groups for both children and adults. Classes are fast-paced and students are encouraged to learn alongside their peers fostering musical independence and self-confidence through ensemble playing. Written by a piano instructor with 45 years of teaching experience, the Mayron Cole Piano Method emphasizes staff-note reading, rhythm counting, and sight-reading. With no short-cuts or gimmicks, this method teaches beginners through advanced pianists to read music and accompany other musicians, which leads to a lifetime of enjoying playing the piano.

Students will learn to:
  • Correctly count rhythm, the keys on the piano, and the fundamentals of staff-note reading with engaging music and corresponding theory fun sheets.
  • Progress through a graduated course of staff-note reading and advanced theory which ultimately creates musical independence.
